Happy Samhain / Backlit 0

Yesterday was a glorious day.

Along with a team of some of the best writers and designers I've ever had the pleasure of working with, we officially launched a new ezine called BACKLIT. It all started roughly 5 months ago when Joshua Haun from That's How Kids Die and I started throwing ideas around on how we could make the zine of the future. We wanted to bring the traditional zine format into a contemporary framework that is flexible and adaptable for the the different sizes of web, cell phones and tablets. We wanted to focus on quality content and design, and even though it's available online we didn't want it to feel like just another blog or website. So if you're looking for something different, you can dive into the underground at backlitzine.com!

Here's a rundown of the issue:

On another note, I had the opportunity to help out with a big Halloween party in Kansas City at the Gusto Lounge. My buddy Daniel Goggin asked me to do a couple horror movie inspired illustrations that we could then enlarge and project on to. So I drew Carrie and Psycho. Daniel and I then made some looping animations. The Carrie projection had a cycle of blood constantly running down her body, and then swirling around up into flames. The Psycho one we ended up showing on a television at the party. It had a loop of water constantly spraying in front of her and blood dripping down the shower walls. Was a good time, I love doing stuff like this!
